We are looking to hire a Head of Solutions Engineering of Enterprise Storage that will be responsible for developing organizational and go-to-market plans to grow revenue and profitability of our storage and data lifecycle management solutions. Success in this role means achieving financial targets, growing services gross profit, and ensuring successful outcomes of services engagements provided to our clients. This is a role for an experienced technical leader with strong business acumen, experience in technical sales, and a proven track record of managing technical teams to successfully design and deploy storage solutions into modern hybrid IT enterprises.


As the Head of Solutions Engineering of Storage you will work the Practice and Sales leadership to identify solutions that help clients manage the storage and lifecycle management of data (unstructured and structured) in the modern hybrid enterprise. Your knowledge of the industry, familiarity with leading storage technologies, and ability to partner with other solution providers will be essential in building successful go-to-market plans to achieve revenue and profitability goals. You will lead a team of technical pre-sales and post-sales experts to operationalize these plans and drive sales, and ensure we successfully design, implement, and maintain solutions for our customers.

What you'll be doing

You will be part of the leadership team of the Modern Data Center Practice and instrumental in developing growth and organizational plans that align to Mainline's broader go-to-market initiatives. Cross-functional collaboration with other Mainline teams (ie: Practices, Enterprise Architects, Account Executives, Marketing, etc.) will be essential for success in this role. You will also maintain close relationships with Mainline's primary storage and data protection partners to understand product roadmaps, services offerings and major investments.


You should bring innovation, energy, and business acumen to this leadership position. A bias for action, a passion for engaging clients, strong communication and presentation skills, deep understanding of enterprise storage solutions (including IBM, Dell, Pure Storage, NetApp, HPE and VAST Data), and high service delivery standards are all part of our culture and essential for the role. What you bring to the role

  • Familiarity with how modern enterprises create, store, secure and backup their data on prem and in the cloud, along with the major storage access methods including block, file and object.
  • Experience with leading a portfolio of enterprise storage solutions including IBM, Dell, VAST Data, Pure Storage, NetApp and HPE.
  • Experience in the enterprise data protection market with technologies such as Veeam, Commvault, Veritas and Rubrik, among others.
  • Experience supporting account executives in driving a solution sale including presentations, design of solutions, developing compelling proposals, scoping the essential services to achieve the solution, and ensuring the right presales resource(s) are engaged on an opportunity.
  • Able to manage and motivate a technical team, measure productivity, juggle competing priorities, load balance the team members to ensure the right presales engineers can work the right sales opportunities, and drive to meet or exceed business targets
  • Some familiarity with hybrid cloud operating models and public cloud storage (AWS EBS, AWS S3, Azure Blob, etc) would be ideal.
  • Maintain general knowledge of industry growth areas where enterprise storage plays a key role, including areas like Artificial Intelligence, Ransomware Protection, Data Security and Software Defined Solutions (examples include PortWorx or Hammerspace).
  • General knowledge of consumption models and "as a service" offerings from the major enterprise storage and data protection vendors.
  • Able to network and recruit experienced team members and high potential contributors
  • Some understanding of service methodologies, services estimation, and managing service delivery issues
  • Continuously assess and refine skills and capacity of pre-sales and post-sales staff to ensure we have the right skills and capacity to support field sales and to achieve business goals.
  • Able to identify potential subcontractors, negotiate agreements, and manage relationships with key contractors that enable or support managed operations while managing costs.

Basic Qualifications

  • A BA/BS degree or equivalent experience is required
  • Experience with enterprise storage solutions such as IBM, Dell, VAST Data, Pure Storage, NetApp and HPE
  • Experience supporting technical sales efforts, developing compelling proposals, scoping and bidding professional services engagements.
  • At least 5 years experience managing a technical team of 10+ people
  • Experience building, organizing, and motivating technical teams to achieve business objectives
  • Strong understanding of data migration tools and methods for primary storage
  • Some experience managing an organization through growth or change is preferred
  • Ability to travel for work occasionally, always with a specific purpose and agenda
