Job Description

General Dynamics Land Systems is a global leader in the design, development, production, support and sustainment of tracked and wheeled military equipment, specifically the Abrams Main Battle Tank and the Stryker Family of Wheeled Combat Vehicles.

The Staff Technologist will be the point of contact at the plant for investigation, evaluation, reporting and implementation of technology specifically selected to improve plant profitability.


Duties & Responsibilities:
* Scranton site lead for Manufacturing Digital Transformation planning and execution. This will include transitioning manufacturing to a paperless factory with real time data capture and advanced utilization of data to assist with decision making.
* Site lead will be located at Scranton and report directly to Scranton but will matrix report to Sterling Heights. Will have counterparts located at Lima, and Anniston along with a supporting POC from Tallahassee.
* Represent Scranton as the point of contact for all process technology advancement efforts and ensure that Scranton is properly represented with vision, needs, risk identifications, and guidance.
* Work with Scranton and divisional quality organizations to develop plan on how to best to integrate quality into our digital systems.
* Interface with GDLS IT organizations to work plans, execution of tasks, and work issues as they arise.
* Communicate the vision at Scranton and work with Scranton leadership to ensure all is properly aware of vision, status, and needs.
* Lead coordination of efforts at Scranton for advanced manufacturing Smart Factory technologies such as Machine Monitoring, Arc Weld Monitoring, Advanced reporting, BOTs, asset tracking, and industrial Internet of Things (iIOT) technologies.
* Responsible for aligning Scranton vision into the divisional Manufacturing DT roadmap, funding requests, project leads, reporting, and communication. Ensure plant needs and vision are integrated within initiatives with focus on top priorities.
* Performs other duties as assigned.

Technical/Process Expertise
Strong Computer Skills including MS Office suite (required), ORACLE, Teamcenter, Solumina (Preferred) Industry 4.0, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)
Process Development - Lean, 6-Sigma, AGILE, PDCA, etc.
Process Analysis - A3, Value Stream, RCCA, 8D, DMAIC, etc.
Willing and able to travel as needed within the US and Canada
Ability to participate within a high performing team that is co-located at the different sites.
Ability to participate within a team that will foster growth and encourage innovation.
Experience leading projects and communicating complex efforts to wide range of audiences is required.
Experience with IT systems is preferred but no required.
Knowledge of continuous improvement and teaming best practices.
Excellent leadership and decision-making, with the ability to function in a team-based environment.
Comfortable briefing complex topics to high-level audiences, including top Leadership at GD Land Systems, GD Corporate, and VIPs from Government / Industry.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently in a self-motivated environment.
Capable of frequent interface with IT, Quality, Supply Chain, Production, Finance, Engineering, Contracts, Customers, suppliers, and other organizations.
Established skills in technical leadership, project execution and conflict management - with proven competency in effective problem solving and decision making.
Knowledgeable on a wide range of applicable process technologies, including how and where to leverage them for improving efficiency, quality, safety, and performance.
Ability to analyze processes for efficiency, manpower demands, equipment requirements, and recommended improvements.
