Company Overview

Trader Joe’s is a national chain of neighborhood grocery stores. We are committed to providing our customers outstanding value in the form of the best quality products at the best everyday prices. Through our rewarding products and knowledgeable, friendly Crew Members, we have been transforming grocery shopping into a welcoming journey full of discovery and fun since 1967.

Our buyers travel the world searching for products we think are exceptional and will find a following among our customers. To earn a spot on our shelves, each product is submitted to a rigorous tasting panel process, in which every aspect of quality is investigated in context of the price we can offer. If a product is assessed as an outstanding value, it becomes an essential part of the Trader Joe’s shopping adventure.

We know that maintaining our everyday focus on value is vital, which is why we don’t have sales, we don’t offer coupons, and there are no loyalty programs or membership cards to swipe at our stores. Trader Joe’s believes every customer should have access to the best prices on the best products every day.

We keep our costs low because every penny we save is a penny you save.
We want our customers’ experience while shopping in our stores to be rewarding, eventful and fun. Our helpful, friendly Crew Members take care in maintaining safe and inviting neighborhood stores; in crafting creative, informative signage to support our customers’ understanding of our products; and in creating a store environment that imparts adventure, humor and a warm sense of community.

Simply put, every time a customer shops with us, we want them to be able to say, “Wow! That was enjoyable, and I got a great deal. I look forward to coming back!”

Diversity & Inclusion

We are dedicated to doing the work, every single day, to make sure Trader Joe’s is an environment that is safe, welcoming, inclusive, and respectful for all Crew Members and customers. Focusing in particular on our support for our Black Crew Members and customers, we have taken a closer look over the past several months at our diversity and inclusion efforts and identified areas where we could improve. A high-level group of Trader Joe’s leaders, including our Chairman & CEO, President & COO, and President of Stores, continues to come together weekly to develop and oversee the implementation of significant actions we are taking and will continue to take to demonstrate our commitment.

Caring for Our Communities

Providing nourishment to our communities is central to being a neighborhood grocery store. Through our longstanding Neighborhood Shares Program, our stores donate 100% of products that go unsold but remain fit to be enjoyed to local food recovery agencies, seven days a week.

We are proud to provide nutritious foods to our communities–– nearly 90% of products donated through the Neighborhoods Shares Program are fresh items: produce, entrees (salads, sandwiches, soups, etc.), bakery, meat, seafood, dairy and eggs.

This past year, as our communities faced exceptional challenges, we continued in this important everyday effort to support people in need. In 2020, we donated nearly $345 million dollars of food and beverages, which equates to approximately 69 million meals provided to our neighbors across the country.

Sustainability

More than ever, sustainability has been a central focus in our work as your neighborhood grocery store. While we faced unforeseen challenges this year, including material shortages and necessary operational changes, we continued in our efforts to find new solutions and make improvements in our resource management and packaging. We are guided by integrity and what is important to our customers and Crew Members.
