We have an excellent opportunity for a Society Director in our Philadelphia office, one of our top 13 metro markets. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of the Philanthropic Society will focus on creating, cultivating and growing the interest and engagement of current and potential donors in the mission of the American Heart Association. This will result in a sustainable and renewable individual giving campaign for the American Heart Association in the form of a Philanthropic Donor Society. The Philanthropic Society, a new initiative for the AHA, requires recruitment and engagement of volunteers who will guide the execution of the Philanthropic Society and the cultivation of its members throughout the year. The Director is responsible for development and volunteer execution of the society, identification of potential donors, cultivation through growing the knowledge and passion of donors, formal recognition of donors, the annual donation of society members, renewal and upgrade of society members, and ultimately the growth of the donors towards a major or principal gift to the AHA. The Director will work closely with high level philanthropic volunteers, affluent individuals and other AHA staff who also work with prospective society members and will work with the Executive Director and Metro event staff to identify current donors at $5,000+ to become part of his/her Donor Portfolio for the territory.
The successful candidate will have:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Minimum of four, preferably six years of experience in the development field. Experience in major gifts is ideal. Equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven leadership in team-building and collaborative partnerships.
- Intellectual depth, maturity, wisdom, humor and collaborative skills. Excellent ability to garner trust and confidence in donors, volunteers and staff.
- Good research, planning, analytical and organizations skills and strong follow-through required. Knowledge of database applications, word processing, Excel, e-mail applications and fundraising software.
- Knowledge of the principles of strategic planning, budgeting, and managing work.
- Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple, complex projects in varying stages of development under time pressure.
- Ability to travel.
